Another Snippet From The Ithaca Mandate

Another Snippet from The Ithaca Mandate

Why did you do this to her? Judith begged of the ship. Why now, after everything she’s done for us? Ithaca remained still, more silent than she’d ever been. The Commander's gaze met hers through the window, and Judith’s heart fractured. The possibility of Lyris’ end, the idea that she might actually be mortal, was simply too devastating to comprehend. If even she could fall, what hope was there for the rest of them? “I’ll come back for you,” Judith choked out, her voice barely a whisper. But even as she made her promise, even as she righted herself and took off for the nearest transporter, Judith wondered if there would even be anything left of the Commander, of the life that had always so fiercely refused to be extinguished, to come back to.

Ha. And in the process you become grateful your real life friends understand you're actually not a total whack job.

Writers are scary because we’ll take personal trauma and think, "Hmm… what if this happened to my fictional characters but worse?"

I'm gonna need someone to invent a fast forward button to get me through this next week where I have to actually exist around humans AND pretend I'm happy about it.

The only good part is the sleeper room on the train 😩

Late to the party

Finally got myself a tumblr. Finally posted on tumblr...mostly because everyone else on AO3 has a tumblr.

Does this mean I know how to use it?

Of course not ^^

I write fanfiction, mainly Star Trek, femslash, and for some reason, cyborgs are the thing I can write about lately.

The Only Time I've Ever Spent A Full Day Scrounging The Internet To Collect All 15 Books Was For Taylor

The only time I've ever spent a full day scrounging the internet to collect all 15 books was for Taylor Anderson's Destroyermen series. I cannot recommend these enough. I still have yet to read the first of the spinoff Artillerymen series, but if you need a SciFi/twisted history series to get lost in--this guy's books are it.

Oh my god.

Too many humans. Too many dogs. Not enough birds.

Saw a debate about using s' or s's at the end of a character's name whose name ends in s to show possessive.

My conclusion: it depends on the style guide you're using, and whether you are an ancient prophet (???) holding a stick that belongs to Moses or a friend of Moses holding a stick that belongs to Moses. Also, just be consistent.

I will only use s' and I will die on this hill.

Me reading anything anyone has written about Airiam. Also people commenting about what I write about Airiam 🙃

When a fic doesn’t fit my head canons but it’s well-written

I've Been Starting To Re-read My Earlier Chapters Of Ithaca As I Near Completion. I Can Safely Say This

I've been starting to re-read my earlier chapters of Ithaca as I near completion. I can safely say this is the heaviest and most speculative piece I've ever written. When I started writing it last September, I had no idea how much it would take over my life, how important it would become for me to be able to get it out into the world. I also didn't seriously expect to make it this far.

I'm behind schedule right now, for obvious reasons, but it still blows my mind to look at this outline and see so few scenes (in white) left to write. There's a lot of work to do even once it is completed, and a lot of trimming down as it's approaching 130,000 words. I still have to decide if I'm going to use any of these chapter titles or just stick with numbers, but I'm hopeful I'll be able to have a first manuscript printed to hold in my hands before the end of the year--and then promptly mark up all the problems with it and start round two =D

Definitely Not Me Over Here Photoshopping Airiam Into A Villain Or Anything...

Definitely not me over here photoshopping Airiam into a villain or anything...

Her core structures were much the same, her eyes were still blue and the shapes of the plating along her face identical to what Michael remembered. The colors, though, were different–black, charcoal, white and gold. The white threading of her uniform moved almost seamlessly into the synthetics around her lips and nose, the dark fabric melting into the inky black planes of her neck and throat. She was taller, more imposing somehow, but the stately, proud Airiam Michael knew was absent. This one's eyes, her very being, seemed altogether broken. Like the Airiam in the brig, she was in pain, too. But this one's pain was much different and it could not be helped.

Snippet from fic 4 "Breaking Free" of my Airiam series, and I've been wanting to do this photo edit for a while. I finally found some time, and even though the new idea I've got floating around in my head is a ways off, I am very excited to be able to write her as a villain ^^

This version is also the one I envision in "The Measure of Logic."

...I don't know why I'm like this.
