Kelpien Folklore Snippet From Subversion Theory's Upcoming Chapter

“The elders taught us that Hell was a moon that fell into the sea. For seven days the water boiled, and when it finally cooled, the tides carried the moon back to the shore as stones. When the first Kelpiens left the sea and walked upon the shore, the stones cut their feet and they bled. So they fashioned hard soles to walk over the stones, but the stones lodged in the tread and were carried across the world. "Now we say, ‘One cannot know the peace of soft earth if they have never walked upon sharp stones. And if ever you walk with light feet, pray it is not that the stones have been lost, but that you have learned how to carry them.’”

It was never an option... [The Measure of Logic: J/7]

Another snippet from "The Measure of Logic."

Janeway didn’t need protection–she’d never needed that–but Seven couldn’t overlook her own compulsion to provide it. Perhaps it was a desire for control–an affinity the likes of which the blonde knew both women shared. Perhaps it was merely an aversion to the sense of abandonment she’d foolishly allowed to creep into her system from the first time Tuvok had implored that Voyager leave her Captain behind. That same fear, compounded when she’d learned that Janeway had agreed, had all but sent Seven of Nine tumbling over the precipice of a neurosis she had never known to exist before then. It was never an option to leave the Captain alone on the planet. The concept was incomprehensible, Voyager’s plans advancing into a foreign, unintelligible language that even the Borg could not have successfully translated.

Definitely Not Me Over Here Photoshopping Airiam Into A Villain Or Anything...

Definitely not me over here photoshopping Airiam into a villain or anything...

Her core structures were much the same, her eyes were still blue and the shapes of the plating along her face identical to what Michael remembered. The colors, though, were different–black, charcoal, white and gold. The white threading of her uniform moved almost seamlessly into the synthetics around her lips and nose, the dark fabric melting into the inky black planes of her neck and throat. She was taller, more imposing somehow, but the stately, proud Airiam Michael knew was absent. This one's eyes, her very being, seemed altogether broken. Like the Airiam in the brig, she was in pain, too. But this one's pain was much different and it could not be helped.

Snippet from fic 4 "Breaking Free" of my Airiam series, and I've been wanting to do this photo edit for a while. I finally found some time, and even though the new idea I've got floating around in my head is a ways off, I am very excited to be able to write her as a villain ^^

This version is also the one I envision in "The Measure of Logic."

...I don't know why I'm like this.

B'elanna And Kes Look Like A Lesbian Couple Lecturing The Other Parents At A Pta Dinner About The Dangers

b'elanna and kes look like a lesbian couple lecturing the other parents at a pta dinner about the dangers of book-banning and the lack of vegetarian options in the school lunches. b'elanna does the lecturing. kes has already slipped laxatives into an obnoxious dad's soup.

I don’t know if anyone has ever done this before but, here ya go… The Different Types of Fanfiction!

I probably left a few out, but these are the most common, compared to their base fiction’s canon plot. Enjoy! XD

I remember trying to describe Farscape to a friend of mine and ended up just sending this clip because, yeah. This is pretty much it.

Set of 8 gifs from Farscape, episode Bad Timing. John Crichton and Harvey are dressed in bunny suits. John is fighting Harvey.

Another snippet from "Subversion Theory"

“You resort to derision and mockery when you are unsettled,” Control replied, unfazed by the question. “You are often unsettled in my presence. It has been exacerbated by the hallucinations you encounter while in your dormant state.”

“Dreams,” Michael corrected, grinding her teeth together. “They’re called dreams.”

She glanced up at it as the servos of its neck thrummed.

Airiam’s neck, she reminded herself, sickened by the way Control’s existence leached into the spaces where Airiam’s memory lived, and how insidiously it was eroding the distinction between the two.

“The more accurate linguistic selection is ‘nightmare,’” it said, the head twitching back to an upright position. “You experience them often.”

“And how would you know that?” Michael asked, her brows furrowing.

A motor whirred.

“I recognize patterns, Michael.”

Subversion Theory

Three years after the attack on Section 31 Headquarters, Control has the Federation on the brink. When the USS Discovery begins receiving encrypted transmissions from someone claiming to be Starfleet who seems to know everything about their enemy, Captain Michael Burnham sees one last shot to turn the tide. But as Control's obsession with her deepens and the boundaries between ally and adversary begin to unravel, its objectives evolve into something far more dangerous--and lead Michael to question if she's still in control of her own game.

A list of some of the things I use every day for writing and worldbuilding tasks!

I've been thinking about a post with this info for a few weeks now, so here it is! A note that I am not affiliated with any of these sites or services--I just use them :)

WordHippo

Until late last year, I had been using thesaurus.com to handle my never-ending hunt for the perfect word. I switched to WordHippo because it is much more friendly to searching phrases in addition to just words. It also includes rhymes, translations, word forms, and pronunciations. For non-English speakers, the word forms section could be particularly helpful.

Fantasy Name Generators

This site has just about anything you could need in relation to generators, including ones specific to pop culture and fandoms like Stargate, Star Trek, Harry Potter, and more. There are sections to create simple mockups of character armor, solar systems, languages, and even find some royalty-free music.

PhotoPea

As a graphic designer, I often find myself needing to visualize my characters, environments, and book covers to really immerse myself when I'm trying to write a scene. PhotoPea is a free alternative to Photoshop that even uses many of the same keyboard shortcuts (meaning you can often follow Photoshop tutorials while using PhotoPea). If the Adobe Creative Suite is out of your budget, PhotoPea is, in my opinion, the best free alternative.

Seventh Sanctum

This was the first generator site I used back in my days on FanFiction and FictionPress, and I still like to use it for its slightly less daunting interface when compared to Fantasy Name Generators. I also find it loads faster.

Descriptionary

I stumbled across this site not long ago, and I've become a bit obsessed with it. It's a bit clunky to navigate, but there's a lot of information and helpful tidbits to be found including color symbolism, body language, and words to use/not use and why.

No Man's Sky Photo Galleries

While this isn't a specific site, and the one I've linked here is just one example of many that are out there, I've found No Man's Sky to be one of my biggest inspirations when writing sci-fi and environmentally focused scenes. The sheer scale of No Man's Sky and its procedurally generated worlds make it easy to find inspiration for everything from planets, to fauna, wildlife, ships, and structures.

Inkarnate

This site stands alone if you need something that allows you to build beautiful maps for your stories. It has a free and a paid version, and the free version is fairly robust. If you're someone who writes anything that involves large-scale worlds or anything involving military strategies, it can be really helpful to have the lay of the land right in front of you as you write.

Autocrit

While the free version of this is pretty limited, I've really enjoyed having it accessible for identifying adverbs, story beats, and to compare my original pieces to genres and authors.

Cap That

If you need high resolution screen captures from your favorite shows, this is the place to find them!

Star Trek: Voyager, J/7: The Measure of Logic - Chapter 8 Posted

https://archiveofourown.org/works/62063797/chapters/162054352

Fandoms: Star Trek: Voyager x Star Trek: Discovery

Relationship: Kathryn Janeway / Seven of Nine

Rating: Mature

Synopsis:

After Captain Janeway contracts an illness during an expedition to an uninhabited planet and orders USS Voyager to leave her behind, a certain hardheaded Astrometrics officer isn't so keen on abandoning her Captain. As Janeway and Seven learn to navigate the strange new dynamic forming between them, it becomes apparent that the planet they now call home has a much deeper story to tell--one that seems to defy logic, reality, and even the natural order of time itself. ----- This is a standalone fic but can be read as additional worldbuilding to my "For the Optics" series. Timeline runs about a year prior to the events of "A Binding of Stars."
