As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free

Dear usamericans, can I interest you in an online copy of Civil Disobedience and The Theory of the Leisure Class ? As someone from a country where protesting is second-nature, I feel inclined to share these essays. They may be old, but they hold up surprisingly well in today's capitalistic hellscape. So read up! Knowledge is power.
I do genuinely always think about the opening scene of the social network being Jessie Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg being openly rude, disrespectful, smarmy and misogynistic to Rooney Mara's character and she responds with the now iconic line that he will very probably be very successful and will go through life thinking that people don't like him because he's a nerd but actually people don't like him because he's an asshole and that this interaction is how the movie is framed and even bookended, with Mark in the final scene trying to request her as a friend on Facebook but she as far as we know doesn't accept. And everything in the movie only serves to prove her right, that he is successful and smart but ultimately an asshole who built his success on comparing women to farm animals out of spite for her. This is literally the opening sequence of the film, the main interaction it's framed around and it baffles me that there are people who view The Social Network (2010) as some kind of lionisation of Facebook's creation, and not one of the most prescient cautionary tales about misogyny and technocracy of our time. To this day, the only thing Zuckerberg actually disputes about the film is that actually he married a woman he met in college. Nothing else. He disputes nothing else. No movie has aged better than The Social Network (2010) and I do actually sincerely wish that wasn't the case.
JD Vance went to the Marines, then Ohio St, then Yale Law. He was a socio-economic diversity admission. He was DEI.
He was first a Marine, and it transformed his life. The government transformed his life.
I am sure JD used his college education and Law Degree to better his life more than he could imagine.
He met his wife at Yale Law. Do you think JD said professors were the enemy? Usha's parents are professors. Are they the enemy?
When JD was in Silicon Valley, I'm sure he used his schooling pedigree to his advantage.
Now, he code switches to talk to MAGA. He talks in white supremacy narratives.
Education is now bad. Professors are the enemy.
JD thinks he can just forget where he came from and who he is.
“He can stay. He can go. He can be impeached or voted out. But removing Trump will not remove the infrastructure of an entire party that embraced him; the dark money that funded him, the online radicalization that drummed his army; nor the racism he amplified and reanimated”

Hegseth is now going after Gen Mark Milley.
Going to remove his security detail and be demoted in retirement.
Hope every veteran who served and voted for this sees how a decorated general is thrown away like garbage, by an alcoholic television host, simply for putting the Constitution over an individual.
We need Tim Walz energy.
Trump is a buffoon. He governs like a rapist. He thinks it's his government, his military.
It's OUR government. OUR military.
There needs to be pre-emotive and immediate pushback on all Trump actions.
Moet Trump executive orders are illegal. He starts from an illegal position, hoping to get a fraction of his ask.
Get the legal action going immediately.

I've been trying to distract myself from the horrors of modern life by knitting unnecessarily complex cable swatches. They are partly inspired by printer's ornaments and other typographic elements.
Racism 101.
Best candidate is not a quota. Top positions are not 'whites only'.
TLDR: capitalism is failing, racism is rising.
You will patch up all the holes in 2025.
(this isn’t a post about knitting)
I did not care much for Van Gogh because it was on every merch when I was a kid and it was a bit tacky. But I want to the Van Gogh museum when I was in Amsterdam, out of pure curiosity, totally expecting to be underwhelmed, and I still don't have the words to express how beautiful these paintings were 🥺
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
He even tucks the thumb
oh boy
Welcome to the Fourth Reich dickheads. This is what you wanted. This is what you get.
So many people are finding screenshots of celebrities allegedly doing a 'nazi salute,' to try and discredit what people have been saying about Elon Musk.
My favourite most recently has been a picture of Sabrina Carpenter which can easily be discredited.
This is the picture:
And this is the video:
Yep, it's just a young woman waving to her fans.
And this is why when you ask any of them who post the screenshots for a video, they refuse to add it in. Because they know the video is of somebody doing something very normal.
We are so absolutely screwed.
🎬 Ritual in Transfigured Time (1946)
Some not so hot takes:
Tariffs = Higher prices
Mass deportations = broken communities
Gay and trans rights = human rights
Doing the nazi salute on live tv = being a nazi
How can anyone disagree with this stuff dude
It’s my hope that Tumblr is still a safe space from political interference when it comes to allowing the users to interact without fear that bots we interact with are sharing misinformation.
^what he said
Somewhere in Paris 1920’s. Left to right: Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda Fitzgerald and Sylvia Beach. The one in the left corner is Picasso. My fictional take on the lost generation °˖✧
ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES.
This is the America that people around you wanted.
People have got to stop making Trump and Musk out to be idiots with no awareness of their surroundings, it only devalues the actual harm that they are doing
Musk is not too dumb to know what a Nazi salute looks like
News sources have to use terms like he appears to do this or alleged to do that because of risk of being sued for libel or slander or whatever but we do not
Be for fucking real, they know what they are doing and they are slowly getting more extreme like we are a frog in the pot and the water is slowly boiling around us
two things. I think america needs to retire the “killing baby hitler” debate for good bc it turns out a lot of them would vote for & cheer for adult hitler as he strips away their rights and plans world domination
but on the topic of voting…….. can someone investigate into this quote from donald trump?? “He [elon] knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers. And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide”
united nations? nato? abraham lincolns ghost???? literally ANYONE????
