Are you perchance working on a comic?

Like this? "šŸ–" Would love to see one of your oc's!

Fffffffwaah thank you so much~!

Here’s my edgy orphan, Silas, who lives on the streets of London around the 1850′s…ish. He’s half human and half Genecian (a race of shape-shifters, it’s an alternate universe), so he’s often treated as subhuman because of his mixed blood. That’s why he’s pretty…angsty. But if you get past the scowl, he’s just a marshmallow who needs some hugs and love.

Survivorship Bias

I have posted about survivorship bias and how it affects your career choices: how a Hollywood actor giving the classicĀ ā€œfollow your dreams and never give upā€ line is bad advice and is pure survivorship bias at work.

When I read up on the wikipedia page, I encountered an interesting story:

During WWII the US Ā Air Force wanted to minimize bomber losses to enemy fire. The Center for Naval Analyses ran a research on where bombers tend to get hit with the explicit aim of enforcing the parts of the airframe that is most likely to receive incoming fire. This is what they came up with:

image

So, they said: the red dots are where bombers are most likely to be hit, so put some more armor on those parts to make the bombers more resilient. That looked like a logical conclusion, until Abraham WaldĀ - a mathematician - started asking questions:Ā

-Ā how did you obtain that data? - well, we looked at every bomber returning from a raid, marked the damages on the airframe on a sheet and collected the sheets from all allied air bases over months. What you see is the result of hundreds of those sheets. - and your conclusion? - well, the red dots are where the bombers were hit. So let’s enforce those parts because they are most exposed to enemy fire.Ā  - no. the red dots are where a bomber can take a hit and return. The bombers that took a hit to the ailerons, the engines or the cockpit never made it home. That’s why they are absent in your data. The blank spots are exactly where you have to enforce the airframe, so those bombers can return.

This is survivorship bias. You only see a subset of the outcomes. The ones that made it far enough to be visible. Look out forĀ absence of data. Sometimes they tell a story of their own.

BTW: You can see the result of this research today. This is the exact reason the A-10 has the pilot sitting in a titanium armor bathtub and has it’s engines placed high and shielded.

im having a hard time thinking of poses to draw????? cn you help maybe>???????/

UMM for me it’s easier to come up with poses if I think of my character as doing an ACTION not a pose idk if that makes sense?

image

So instead of thinking of a fixed pose, I think of an action that my char could be doing e.g eating a piece of pie

it’s easier for me to visualize a pose if there’s some context YEAH

image

ALSO I like to draw sequences? of a certain action, and then pick the one I like best e.g. if my OC is reading

1) Standard pose > 2 & 3 poses that might follow after if this is movingĀ

or if they’re frying an egg

image

Ā I don’t draw it out in full all the time ofc, sometimes I just draw like really sketchy sequences yeah idk if that makes sense, but it helps me figure out poses besides the most obvious one!

WHEN YOU DONā€T KNOW where to put the hands always go back to: WHAT WOULD YOU DO if you’re doing this particular action?? And if all things fail, you can always go to sites like pixelovely for poses

Is it socially acceptable to reply to two of these in one day?

In anycase, if it'll bug you that much, then go gunho, but please please please be careful. Overworking oneself is a reeeeeaaaly bad rut to fall into (But you probably already know that.)

In the end it up to you Bonka.

I'll just pretend I'm a wise old person (though I am neither) and just say . "Follow your heart my child."

Good luck Bonka!

curlycupgumweed replied to your post: gghg I’m like… try and still get some …

If you’ve already been productive today why not go to bed, (or if you need to draw something fun do that) You should, (and can) only work so much in a day :)

Well, I don’t feel like I’ve done much really haha…...
