This month, my class was supposed to read The Great Gatsby (we're high school seniors, so most of us are 17/18, so a lot of my class voting in their first primary election), but our teacher was out sick all of January, so we were supposed to read on our own.
This week was Midterms week, and she finally came back. We were supposed to take a test on The Great Gatsby next week, but she gave us some options since she hasn't been around to talk with us about the book:
A. Take the test
B. Only do the open-ended portion of of the test
C. Write an essay about The Great Gatsby instead
One classmate got her to add D. No test at all.
Most people didn't want to take any test, but some of us (including myself) were hoping for something to boost our grade. One person asked if they alone could still take the full test even if everyone else voted differently, but it had to be everyone or no one takes it.
Unsurprisingly, the majority voted D. Not even a minute later, when my teacher reiterated that there would be no test, a classmate (voted D) asked "Wait, we're not taking the test?"
My teacher said "Yes, it's what you voted for."
He smiled and said "Oh, I wasn't paying attention."
He didn't know what he was voting for.
Our teacher told us our options over 5 times and he didn't pay attention a single time. She made sure we knew what our options were over and over, answering questions like how it would effect our grade, why she was giving us options at all.
All that time to thinking about it, discuss it with each other, ask her more questions, and he didn't even bother to pay attention to what he was actually voting for...
the obsession some people have with their ships being canonized…..who are you, the catholic church
best ship dynamic is when they go from "you fool" (derogatory) to "you fool" (desperate)

His heart was beating in his ears as he held pressure to Jung-bae's wound. He was vaguely aware of the police arresting the Frontman and his guards. It's what he's wanted since the begining, but... it didn't seem to matter very much in that moment.
He could feel himself speak more than he could actually hear. He could feel his mouth moving, the words scratching at his throat, his friend's name haunting the air around him. But for some reason, the words never reached his ears.
When someone tried once again tried to pull him away from Jung-bae, he panicked, ready to become violent. Until, he saw the police officer with a first aid kit.
The man who tried to grab him from behind apologized, introducing himself as an officer and a friend of Jun-ho.
He let the officer guide him to an empty corridor. He let his mind drift away for he didnt know how long, until officers once again escort him outside. The cool air hit his face like a cold shower. It felt difficult to move on his own, almost like he was a statue, watching, but never participating in the chaos around him. Military boats and helicopters surrounded the island. EMTs and soldiers rushed around him.
Up ahead was a makeshift prehospital, where he could see Jun-ho sitting on the ground. He looked pale and very out of it. Gi-hun couldn't blame him, he felt the same way.
Guards were being arrested and unmasked before being escorted onto boats in units. Most of them looked so young, all with a dull look in their eyes. They all looked like average people he would pass on the street.
His gaze floated around the scene before him with no particular destination, until it fell on the frontman, wrists cuffed, surrounded by soldiers, with no mask on.
"...Young-il...?" His voice cracked.
Young-il spotted Gi-hun as a soldier patted him down. He sighed, looking... defeated?
Gi-hun felt like he was about to throw up. His knees caved in and he fell to the ground. He began to dry heave and an officer rushed him to the prehospital. They sat him down with a bucket across from Jun-ho. They locked eyes.
"Young-il... He's the Frontman..." Gi-hun said faintly.
Jun-ho tilted his head, eyes squinting, "Young-il? Who is that."
He nodded his head in the direction of the Frontman, "He was a player... Or, I thought he was..." The nausea continued to swirl around in his head.
Jun-ho shook his head. "No. No, that's In-ho." He paused.
"That's my brother."
Gi-hun buried his head in the bucket as vomit began pouring out his mouth. Tears began to stream down his cheek.
This was far more than he was prepared to handle...
Young-il, player 001. This first person so approach him on the first day. Who changed his vote just for him. Who so quickly accepted Jun-hee into their team with open arms. Who laughed, mourned, fought with them.
This was the man responsible for countless deaths. The man that tormented his dreams. The man that lived with a silver spoon in his mouth. He could kill anyone he wanted with the snap of his finger.
This was the man who had both ruined Gi-hun's life and a tight grip on his heart.
After he was pretty certain he was done vomiting, he finally lifted his head up from the now disgusting bucket and wiped his mouth with a nearby cloth. He breathed in and out through his mouth. He closed his eyes and let the sounds around him cleanse his mind. Sure, the yelling of soldiers, static of police radios, and whopping of helicopters was loud, but the rustling of trees, the whispers of the breeze, his own, slowed breathing canceled all of that out so nicely.
"The man that was next to you," Jun-ho started, "the one that got shot. Who is he?"
Gi-hun shifted around. "Park Jung-bae. He's a good friend of mine."
Jun-ho nodded, not pushing for more details. "We spent a few days searching for the island, but we kept bumping into dead ends. They knew we were looking for them and sent us to a few traps. Turns out the fisherman who's been helping me the last three was working for them. He killed one of our men and tampered with our drone."
Gi-hun's eyes widened. "Three years? They've really been keeping tabs on us, huh..."
Jun-ho took a swig from a waterbottle. "Makes a lot of sense. The Frontman shot me and he was the one who found me." he said.
Gi-hun furrowed his brow, "You never questioned how he saved you from here and was never once able to find it again?"
The younger man paused before looking away, his cheeks now tinted a rosy pink. "What matters now is the mission is over. We can rest now."
Gi-hun nodded, but both men knew this wasn't true. The pain wouldn't go away anytime soon. They still have to deal with the government, the press, the trauma. The only thing that made what was to come easier than the last three year was the significant lack of death.
He hesitated before speaking. "Maybe, in the middle of all this... when we're both free... you would want to grabs some drinks? My treat."
Jun-ho looked at him, a bit surprised. "Yeah. That would be nice."
My chorus teacher hate New Year's Resolutions because usually people don't follow up with it or they do and burn themselves out within a month. So 2 days ago he made us write down at least one resolution and we're going to check back in with eachother at the end of the semester/month. One of my resolutions was to write and upload the Squid Game fics I've been cooking up in the old noggin. Everyone say thank you Mr. C 😊

Despite the casualty, Jun-ho could not be more thankful the crew caught the Captain sabotaging the mission. As devastating as the betrayal had been, the relief of catching their loose thread and making quick progress after was rivaling those negative feelings.
The crew had first tried to threaten him to show them the island, but to no avail. They didn't scare him, because he knew they needed him alive.
It was far too dangerous to return to land right away, considering was both dark and stormy, so they contacted the police requesting to meet them at the dock. In that meantime, they managed to fish out the body that was thrown into the ocean back onto their boat. As soon as the sun met the sky, the crew was racing back to land, relieved to find police waiting for them.
The Captain was immediately taken into custody, as was the boat and all items on it. The crews on both boat gave statements to the police. The body and drone were inspected and analyzed, and it was determined that he had both killed the man and tampered with the drone. Once it was offical that the captain would face time for murder and more in depth investigation would be conducted, he finally broke. The Captain admitted to being sent out to rescue Jun-ho, and soon after was ordered to keep him away from the island. He gave names, dates, locations, payments, all of it on the table.
"Finally," Jun-ho thought, sighing with relief, "They believe me..."
It was the next day that the police set out with the crew in search of the island. Originally, the police were opposed to bringing all of them along (with Jun-ho being the exception). But, the crew had been working on this mission for weeks. They understood what was going on and could help the dispatched officers with the finer details. And it turned out to be a great benefit that Woo-seok had been working so closely with Mr. Kim and Gi-hun for 2 whole years.
Within 48 hours they had found the island. They called in the military units they had on standby. Jun-ho had assumed they would've had more precautions prepared, but it was rather simple finding and entering the building. Maybe Gi-hun really was making changes from the inside...
As Jun-ho led the police through the haunting corridors, he felt his time as a circle guard finally payed off, truly. He had a good understanding of the layout, at least for most guards and the players, and he could recall where the VIP lounges were decently enough to arrest his... the Frontman... He was the weightbaring pillar. Once the Frontman goes down, the rest of the operation goes down with him.
Jun-ho took his boat crew and the original dispatched police with him to wander the purple halls, while Woo-Seok took the other half to find the players. He was a tad apprehensive about letting Woo-Seok lead a crew on his own.
In the short time Jun-m-ho had known the man, he found him to be a bit of a goofball and not the brightest, and rather naive, as far as mobsters go. But, he had no choice to keep his head held high and see the man's positivity qualities. The man had proven to be emotionally invested in the case after his friend's unfortunate death. He had real experience working in Seoul's more... underground ... communities. He knew his weapons decently enough and was strong and skilled enough not only to defend himself, but to protect others. Most of all, the poor man was hopelessly loyal. ("He officiated my wedding!" The man kept crying the night they first met.)
Woo-Seok had known of the island and it's games for years, even if he didn't believe it for a long time. Gi-hun, ever the paranoid one, had given them a map of the layout where players were permitted. In the end, it's like Woo-Seok was meant to help him. He could trust him to take the crew and forces to the players' quarters without issue.
His hand trailed along the wall as he guided them to what he hoped was the Frontman's wing of the building. Actually walking through the purple halls again after 3 years was a bit harder than he though. Every corner, every step appeared the same. No matter what direction you turn, you couldn't escape the mind-numbing, childish purple.
Bang!
A single shot echoed in the distance, followed by the cries of a single man.
Jun-ho ran to the noise, leaving the rest of his team to follow loosely behind.
"Gi-hun!" He called out, watching as Gi-hun was dragged away from the body of another player. Guards pointed their guns at him.
"Don't bother. The police are making their away around the building. We're surrounded by military enforcement and even more are on their way. We have a collection of evidence that this is an underground gambling ring using illegal and inhumane methods of torture and murder. As well as illegal harvesting of organs to be sold on the black market."
The guards loosened their grip on Gi-hun. He squirmed out of their grasp within seconds. He crumbled to the other player's side, sobbing and put pressure on the wound.
The Frontman watched Gi-hun for moment before turning back to face Jun-ho Even with the cold, lifeless mask, the Frontman gave off an air of defeat, raising his hands above his head. The guards looked to their boss before hesitantly doing the same. Policemen pushed passed him, rushing to arrest them.
All at once the world around him felt unreal. Maybe it was the lights, or the colorful walls, but he felt like he was in a dream. People moved in and out of his field of vision. Voices around him became muffled. His back touched the wall and he slid down to the floor. He felt like someone knocked all the tension out of his body.
He did it. It was over.
His fight was over.
Something I don't see people talking about with season 2 of Squid Game are the elements of addiction. Obviously the shows main themes is the evils of Capitalism, but no one is talking about the consequential addiction to risk!
It's been long since I've watched the first season, but if I recall correctly, the salesman bitchslaps Gi-hun a good couple of times before he wins. Despite getting hurt and knowing he could continue to get hurt, the possibility of getting the money was worth the risk. Same with the people who returned to the games after the vote to leave. They knew they could be killed, but the financial opportunity was too good to pass up. Although addiction doesn't play much of a role in these examples, they are more led by desperation and lack of opportunity.
But later in season 2 in "Bread and Lottery," we see the salesman approach various homeless people with a role of bread and a lottery ticket, making them choose between the two. Only one person in that scene chooses the bread over the lottery ticket, and we see another drinking right before choosing. This scene felt a little unfair to me (everything in this show is unfair but still) because these are all people very obviously struggling and haven't made the best decisions. Again, one of them drank before choosing.
Throughout season 2, the players are given the chance to leave after each game. Despite the safer option of leaving with a little bit of money being right there for them, the opportunity to get even more too good to them. While I personally haven't suffered from any diagnosed addiction, the genes run in both sides of my family, and I have struggled with disordered eating all my life. The title for s2 ep5 "One More Game" felt very personal to me because that phrase was an addiction mentality that I struggle with; one more slice, one more bowl, one more game...
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the players' votes were dictated more by the dopamine rush than the money...
yall need to lock the fuck in if you want more dhmis content. i dont think yall realize how hard this shit is without OUR support. season two is already off the table so weve gotta start dropping cash or we’re not getting shit for the next decade!!!
money makes the world go round no matter how much we hate it. if you want more content the creators have to get the money for it. its gone back to being self funded which means WE have to pitch in if we want something!!
theyve been too incredibly kind to us by letting us have their stuff for free. its very reasonable to charge now!! hell, it wouldve been reasonable to charge from the beginning!!! yall are fucking spoiled by becky and joe!!!! be grateful!!
even if you dont have the cash you should still tell people about the website, advertise that shit dude!!!! we as a community have to pull together if we want things. the creators are just not big enough to fund these kinds of things themselves. pull up your damn bootstraps and stops complaining over 12 fucking dollars!!!!!!

"It Doesn't Matter If Your Gay, You're Still Our Friend" Part One
What if Trent wasn't the only one to catch Colin and Michael making out in the alley?
Written between the airing of 3x3 and 3x4
Pairing: Colin Hughs x Michael
Coming Out, Mental Breakdown, Angst with a Happy Ending, Light Angst, Canon Compliant, Canon Queer Relationship, Canon Queer Character, AFC Richmond Players are Himbos
Colin couldn't fully wrap his head around how he could go from having a fun night out with his friends to sobbing in his partner's arms at home in just a single hour.
The night started off great.
He carpooled to Sarn's restaurant with Richard, Dani, and Isaac. This wasn't unusual. The team would often branch off into groups and celebrate after a big win. Considering their winning streak, it was only natural.
They were getting rounds of drinks (all on Sam, of course), and joking around.
"I'm not one those guys, but considering how much we've been wining with Zava around, and seeing how much he can move his body? He could do whatever he wanted to me." Richard said with a grin.
Dani and Isaac laughed. Colin laughed along.
He pushed down the punch to the gut feeling he got from his friend's words.
'They don't know.'
They didnt know he was one of those guys.
He knew they meant no harm. Colin wouldn't say his teammates were homophobic. They were just guys being guys. He knew Moe's best friend and uncles were gay. And he knew Jan Maas's twin sister was transgender. From basic observation, the team didn't seem to care. Sure, some of them looked surprised when one of them mentioned someone was gay, but no seemed to mind when it was mentioned.
But still, the topic scared him, It was one thing to be friends with someone who had gay friends, it was another to be friends with a gay person. And said person being your colleague? Considering just how many different cultures and backgrounds everyone on the team came from, and given what Colin knew about classic locker-room culture, it wasn't worth the risk.
He felt a mix of emotions when Michael showed up. He was overjoyed when he saw Michael, but it hurt he had so much love to give his boyfriend. But he couidn't give him anything more than a dude-bro handshake. He had to introduce the love of his life as his best friend. 'His wingman'. And to his closest friends no less.
"I'm trying," Michael said, taking a sip of his drink, "Trust ne, it's harder than you think." This got a chuckle out of all of them. Though, it was probably funnier to the two of them, considering the context was different for them compared to his friends.
Dani grinned, "Oh, come on. A footballer with a smile and personality like that? Plenty of women would want him."
"No woman has really caught my interest, l guess." Colin leaned back in his chair.
He was really hoping that they would leave it at that, and move on from the topic. But they continued.
"We'll just have to get you to some bars around town. Maybe use Bantr, like Sam." Dani patted Colin's shoulder. "Michael. You said you're his wingman. Would you like to join us?"
Michael laughed. Only Colin could see how the conversation was starting to make him uncomfortable. Michael took a bigger sip of his drink, "I'd like to see you try."
Eventualy (thankfully), the subject matter died down, all of the attention going to Zava when he made his grand entrance.
Colin and Michael were able to sneak away without anyone being suspicious of them. They knew it was safe when they were a block or two away from the party.
"Hi Colin."
"Hi Michael."
They embraced each other warmly, now being comfortable enough to do So. Colin kissed him eagerly. Michael laughed when he pulled away.
"Eagar much?"
Colin whined, "I just missed you. I don't like it when you go away."
Michael put his hand on Colin's cheek, "I missed you too. You know, we still have a bit of time left before people notice we're gone. Maybe we could..."
Colin took this as his cue to lean back in.
He loved being like this. He loved feeling Michael's hair in his hands, and their bodies seemed to fit perfectly together.
"Colin?"
His blood ran cold. They must have lost track of time.
They quickiy puled away from each other. Colin looked over to see Dani, Isaac, Richard, Jan Maas, and Jamie.
"Hey, guys," he said awkwardly, "What are you guys doing? Party's still going on inside."
"We were gonna get another round of drinks. We wanted to find ya, see if you wanted to join." Jamie said.
"Yeah. Yeah, sounds good." He gave them a thumbs up.
"Maybe you had a little too much to drink," Jan Maas said, "You know you were kissing you friend Michael, right?" Everyone looked at him. "What?" he asked.
"Um yeah, I know." Colin looked back at his boyfriend for reassurance. Michael grabbed his hand, giving him a look that said go ahead. "Michael isn't my just my friend. And he definitely isn't my wingman. ...He's my boyfriend."
Dani and Jamie looked dumbfounded. He couldn't read Isaac and Richard's face. Jan Maas just looked like Jan Maas.
Colin turned to Michael and looked back at his friends. "We should go."
Colin and Michael quickly made their way back to the restaurant to get their things and leave. His teammnates followed.
He grabbed his drawstring bag and turned to Michael to make sure he had his keys (he knew Michael didn't drink enough to raise any concerns about driving).
"Colin, wait! It's alright if your gay, your still our friend!" Dani called out to him.
A hush fell over the room.
Looking around at all his friends, colleagues, and mutuals, it was clear everyone was shocked. Colin felt himself on the verge of tears. He looked to Michael for guidance.
"It's okay," he said, "Let's go." Michael guided him out of the restaurant and to his car. When the car door shut, he broke down crying.
Looking out the window, he could see his whole team (minus Zava) and coach Ted standing outside Ola's, looking stunned.
Colin would feel ashamed of himself, but he didn't have the energy to care. He just wanted to crawl into bed with Michael and never leave.
When they got home, Michael led him straight to their bedroom. He made him take a shower and get a glass of water before letting him get into their bed.
"How're you feeling?" he asked.
"Not great." Colin replied.
Michael put a hand on his back, "Need anything?"
Colin shook his head. "I'm worried about us. What's gonna happen?"
Michael sighed, "I dont know. But were going to figure it together, yeah," Coin gave him an affirming nod.
It only when the got under the covers did Colin begin to cry again, letting Michael hold him the rest of the night.
Omg I'm a month late 😭! I'm really happy to be included!

You know how Percy gets turned into a Guinea Pig in SoM? Someone headcanoned that Percy's favorite snack is leaves of lettuce because he was turned into a Guinea pig.
What if Percy had other Guinea Pig tendencies?
Imagine Percy whistling and grunting and jumping up and down when he got into the same college as Annabeth, or when Estelle was born.
Imagine Percy squeaking while cuddling with Annabeth, or when Grover is visiting, or while hanging out in the bookshop with Tyson.
Imagine Percy rough-housing with some campers during training and instinctively nipping at them.
Imagine Percy hiding in his room or cabin - not because he's afraid, but because he's stressed. Or huntching over when he sits.
Imagine Percy going to the beach just to dig tunnels (much to Poseidon's concern).
Imagine Percy throwing his head in the air when he gets annoyed or chattering his teeth when he's frustrated.
Imagine Percy holding himself back from licking his loved ones
Imagine Percy walking around his cabin in circles or swimming laps in the camp lake when stressed.
Imagine Percy yawn when he stretches after sleeping every time without fail.
Imagine Percy biting on pencils when he's bored and wants attention.
Imagine Percy rubbing his face on Paul's shoulder after marrying Sally to scent mark him as his family.
So many possibilities for fanfiction

Last night mom went to a concert in NY for Middle-aged Dad Jam Band, guest staring Paul Rudd. My mom got to meet Ken Marino for the second time. She told him that I told her that if she meets Paul to tell him that I loved him in Ideal Home. It fills me with unreasonable joy and fulfillment that Paul Rudd knows that some 14 year old watched him dick down Steve Coogan.
