Cool thing about this is that it is almost a completely outdated idea in that it isn't really necessary anymore, but you can't easily move a whole city. It was originally because when those areas flooded and then receded it would leave far more fertile soil, the Nile is the most famous example. So when people started farming they needed to stay in one place and the place where all the fish and yearly refertilised soil and a body of water for irrigation are is really nice. Later trade was a lot harder over land so coastal cities near rivers were important trade hubs, so there were more jobs, so more migrants, so more people and bigger cities. Nowadays overland logistics networks are efficient enough that inland cities have a lot easier of a time existing. So that's cool.

Mourning those friendships where you kinda just gradually grew apart and you don't know how to rekindle that friendship
Another version I've seen is to think about it like you traveled back in time from ten years in the future to do this, and now you get to redo these next ten years

In addition, the way he got power was similar as well. To regular people he tries to portray himself as someone who will advocate for the little guy, to Christians he's a devout, and to big companies he's a fellow businessman. And then of course he gives a scapegoat to everyone's problems and an alternative to the current government overseeing a bad economic situation.
It’s uncanny how similar Trump is acting like Hitler. People are now doing the Nazi salute. They’re drawing the symbol. The KKK was seen in Kentucky asking people to join them. ICE has been ripping families apart. Companies have pulled back Diversity Initiatives. We’re no longer part of WHO and there won’t be any communication from the CDC at least until February 1st. We’re being censored and the news can’t be trusted. Thousands of Americans didn’t know there were protests against Trump yesterday outside the U.S. Quotes from The Handmaid’s Tale and Anne Frank have been compared to what’s going on right now.
According to The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Studies and Prevention the U.S. has officially been given a red flag alert for Genocide.
I’m exhausted but I will never stop being angry.
You must always have a table in the corner for Aragorn. 'Tis the law.
I'm allergic to crabs, I substitute old bay and the flag. One time as a small child I saw a sign for live crabs, and something about asking at the counter, and so I was like "can we go and ask to look at the crabs?" And they let us look at the crabs, it was great.
continually awed by how american states function like separate countries
I held back on getting my gender changed in the state of Georgia because it required filing a court case and appearing before a judge to prove that I had transitioned enough to warrant calling myself male on my documents. there was a strong possibility they could deny me because I hadn't undergone any type of surgery (a requirement under Georgia law that is waived only sometimes), despite passing as male 100% of the time.
this morning I went to the Maryland vehicle administration building and they had a touch screen with buttons that said "male" and "female."
I paused and asked the lady "I can choose male, right?" and she looked at me (again, I'm just some guy with a beard) (and I think she misheard me) and she was like "Oh! Do you want to be female now?" I said no, my Georgia license (directly in front of her) says female, they wouldn't let me change it, can I be male now?
she said to just pick whichever I wanted. I got my updated license in 5 minutes.
The last death of WWI I can find information on was in 2014, although there could be a more recent one. 2 Belgian construction workers were killed by a shell around march of that year.
The problem with WWI in particular is that they sat for four years on roughly the same lines, the shells were often duds (1 in 4 to 1 in 3), and 1.5 billion were fired on the western front alone. In addition to that you have the possibility of gas shells which are still very dangerous if the gas gets released. There are some areas of France and Belgium where 99% of plants will die.
And then there are all the other conflicts and the later you go the worse it tends to get, with mines and cluster munitions.
So, uh, yeah. War is bad but you probably didn't need me to tell you that. Some estimates say it will take 300-700 years to clear out the WWI battlefields.

I am so fucking tired of when I say a massive casualty figure people just say "yeah" like it's fucking ok to have 20-70,000,000 people die in a war that no one's ever heard of and isn't even called a war half the time. Like it's fucking ok that 2 million people died in the american civil war.
Indont get what everyone's fetish is with death. There's no fucking glory in in death, no honor or pride to be had in killing people. All dying accomplishes is leaving behind broken people. People who ask you to stop doing that are contemptible, naive. There's no other way to solve our problems but war. Yes there fucking is. You've had so many fucking chances and every single fucking time no one does it. They have to murder or oppress or hold onto useless desert for fucking sentimentality I guess. Oh, I killed millions of people who didn't have anything to with whatever I set out to do? Oh well, at least I got to make my own drawing on a map. I left a minefield and an unknown number of whatever else that will kill civilians long after whatever I was fighting over means nothing (it didn't mean anything to begin with but I guess I'll humor you)? That's fine. Let's just force a bunch of children to fight each other, then take a video of them being terrified of a military uniform and call them fucking cowards for being traumatized after watching their friends die. PH, you have money? Then you don't have to go, definitely not a feudal levy system, no siree. We just force marginalized groups and poor people to fight wars while the rich people get to sit at home and complain about not having chocolate. Even our war heroes don't think there's glory in war. The reason Audie Murphy jumped on that tank was because they were hurting his friends, it was vengeance. The day you earn a medal of honor is often described as the worst day of your life.
