Essek was seated on the couch in the living room. Caleb stepped up behind him and, wrapping his arms around his shoulders, leaned his brow against the crown of Essek’s head. Essek made a small noise of greeting and raised a hand to rest at the nape of Caleb’s neck. His fingers worked their way underneath Caleb’s ponytail and scratched gently at his scalp. Caleb sighed, a haze of contentment settling over him at the touch. Essek tilted his head back, running his nose along the length of Caleb’s. “Hello, dear,” he said. “Hallo.”

the best part of the social worker in the horse situation isn't even that there was a social worker in a horse or that dr hannibal b cannibal was disgusted by it or even the really gay ass hannigram scene immediately after. it's that hannibal deadass told the social worker to get back in the horse because suffocating inside a horse is preferable to any situation in which will graham has a gun
YES THE FACT THAT he knows the stigma around cannibalism and then feeds other people other people just to reassure himself that it is something people shouldn’t be as scared of as they are. The objection people have to human meat is morality but in Hannibal’s mind they are less than people because of their Rudeness or transgressions so there’s no moral dilema. Not that there had to be because yes he did eat his sister and was probably really destroyed by it, so he ate Rude people to justify how he felt about it. AND THEN HE NEEDS TO DO IT TO OTHERS !
But then when Will comes around here is a person whom he wants to let in and so the feeding becomes love. He wants Will to know him and know what he’s done so he gifts Will the good sides of the cannibalism that he’s discovered. There is the murder aspect of it which I think is just a fun side to it, the hunting and viewing yourself as a superior predator and whatnot. But he wants Will to love and know him so he gives Will the one thing that he has. (And nothing bad happens and they drive off into the sunset together.)
I often think about how Hannibal tricked people into cannibalism. it’s really easy to right this off as Hannibal just being sick and twisted, a psychopath, but its clearly something much deeper than that to Hannibal. Not only because he’s lonely and wants someone to understand him, enjoy this with him, but to console himself. He was forced to eat his own sister whom he loved and he enjoyed it. Every time he watches someone else enjoy it he feels righteous, he feels normal.
He does it to prove to himself he’s not a monster. Anyone else would feel the same in his situation. So he forces people over, and over, and over, to the same conclusion.
To comfort the sad little boy inside filled with doubt.

By the way, to those saying that Will is in fact not genuine in these scenes
Then why on earth would he also smile like an idiot when talking to Chiyoh about Hannibal
And then you also have this smitten idiotic smile here:
Oh and in here

happy valentine's day, friends! 💜
a week or so ago i ran a bunch of polls on what kind of shadowgast picture i should draw for v-day, and y'all have helped me build something really fun! especially with the three winners of the color poll (purple, teal, and orange!). i don't know how much of a 'regular shadowgast' this picture has turned out to be (regular shadowgast are probably studying ancient tomes in a dusty library as we speak), but let's say that i am giving you the plot bunny gift of figuring out the setting of this scene 😏
tip jar!
"if i was orpheus i would simply not turn around" yes you would. if you were orpheus and you loved eurydice, you would. to love someone is to turn around. to love someone is to look at them. whichever version of the myth — he hears her stumble, he can't hear her at all, he thinks he's been tricked — he turns around because he loves her. that's why it's a tragedy. because he loves her enough to save her. because he loves her so much he can't save her. because he will always, always turn around. "if i was orpheus i would simply —" you wouldn't be orpheus. you wouldn't be brave enough to walk into the underworld and save the person you love. be serious

Like many countries, Japan uses a 12-month calendar. The names are very simple. January is literally "Month one", February is "Month two", etc:
一月 = January
二月 = February
However, before the Meiji Restoration (mid-1800s) it was common to use an older 12-month system. These months’ names referenced the weather and the seasons (similar to the French Revolutionary calendar).
This old system is based on a lunar calendar with exactly 28 days in each month, beginning and ending on the new moon.
September is 長月:
長 = long
月 = month
So literally, "the long month".
In September the nights get longer, and we can enjoy the beautiful harvest moon. The September full moon sees the arrival of the Moon Viewing Festival, celebrated in many East Asian countries including Japan, in which it is traditional to enjoy the beautiful moon whilst eating white mochi (rice cakes). 🎑
