My animation process (in a GIF!)

for all of you who struggle to draw horse feet. :) You’ve gotta have those pasterns in there, as they are the horse’s main shock absorbers, as seen in the “bearing weight” example.
If you can handle an animal autopsy, here’s an interesting vid on how the muscles and joints work in the lower leg of the horse.

Edit: 1/11/24 It was brought to my attention that some of the language in this tutorial read as fatphobic. This tutorial was originally written and published on DeviantArt in 2011 and I was generally unaware of these issues at the time. I have adjusted the language in the tutorial to hopefully address these concerns, though old versions may continue to circulate. Thanks for taking the time to point these things out to me. Gengar pride icons! Six purple pride flags that I could think of off the top of my head. Inspired by that meme with nonbinary people, asexuals, and Gengar all agreeing that the colour purple is based. I added the bi, genderqueer, genderfluid, and graysexual flags also.
