Late 4 work
Working on more excavation equipment, this time the prototype for the molten iron thrower - made from a repurposed Nuclear Thermal Rocket torch with pipe-fed iron particulate for maximum heat transfer toward whatever this thing is pointed at ! Lots and lots of radiators and payload storage for the purposes of not melting down when this heats up way more than any reasonably engineered device should ! They also happen to look hella cool

I’ve been playing a bunch of DeltaV: Rings Of Saturn lately and it’s gotten me into a very intense hard sci-fi mood! So I tried to follow the game’s visual language (and roughly stuck to realism) to make this beast! The THIILSRRRF (Titan Heavy Industries Inter-Lunar Search, Rescue, Refuel and Repair Foundry) - if you get stranded in deep space, one of those is what would come and rescue you (…if you can be found) Has all the nice features like: - 4 heavy manipulator arms for holding the ship in place, complete with fuel hoses for attachment by EVA mechanics - A heavy manipulator arm and a laser cutter on linear rails, for… detaching unneeded ballast - A docking bay with a dedicated fuel fuselage and emergency fissile fuel in case of fixing a reactor failure - Propellant tanks heavier than your mum, and encased in a resilient frame that doubles as a faraday cage, just in case - A guiding rail for ships to easily dock, complete with electromagnetic launch systems for undocking without fuel burn - A robust sensor array for locating distress signals over vast distances Tried my best to make it look like a technical drawing :) Thank u for reading!! I had this idea once of tar birds (Tarlings?) that would cover themselves in symbiotic bacteria (that they store in the crop [where normally birds store food for fledglings]) and then spread that bacteria on various foodstuffs (animal carcasses, decaying plants) and then slurp it all up as this black gooey substance. In exchange their whole body surface is the perfect habitat for those microorganisms (and also they look like tar because that’s hella cool and also because they accelerate decay by a ton and that’s thematic :> ) They’re nocturnal and lead a scavenger lifestyle, cleaning up decaying biomatter and leaving behind black puddles of goo (that other living things should probably avoid cause brother, they stink) Their wings feature 2 claws each. Because I think claws are cool . And to dig in detritus and whatnot Fledglings look like normal baby birds... until the first feeding when they receive the “tar” from their parents I call them tarlings because it’s a lil pun and a good working name :>. And this one is called Mortimer because that’s what I named him. Might flesh those out a bit more later, maybe when making some sort of game or animation or something along these lines ! Or I’ll just start a fake encyclopedia documenting animals that don’t exist

The EV-rod is finished! This engine might not roar, but it does buzz like there’s a tomorrow after all! Just try not to touch any exposed metal while it’s running :)
