Virgil can't breathe.
Warnings for choking, brief mention of blood, loss of breath, accidental (maybe) murder, and character death.
No dialogue, lots of introspection.
Virgil can't breathe. He can't breathe and it hurts so bad and his lungs are heaving to try to get even the tiniest amount of air in them and coming up with nothing.
His hands scrabble at his throat, instinctively trying to do something, anything, to allow him to breathe again, despite knowing it wouldn't work.
He wheezes with all that's left in him, hoping against hope that someone would come, that someone would hear him and help.
But no one was there, and no one would come. They were all downstairs, enjoying themselves, cuddled up together on the couch and eating Patton's signature popcorn and watching Disney. No one would even think to look for him until he didn't show up for the next video, and that wasn't scheduled for a few days.
No one would even know.
Virgil can't breathe. He can't breathe and his lungs are starting to seize and his vision is black around the edges and everything sounds fuzzy. His heart is pumping faster than it's ever been before, loud and strong enough that if it goes any faster he fears it would burst.
He chokes, bloody saliva dribbling out of his mouth, leaving dark, sticky trails down his face as he leans forward, his entire body fighting for even one breath of air.
And then it's calm, suddenly. He's lying on his back, staring up at the ceiling, which has little stars painted across it. The others had helped, Logan making sure everything was accurate and Roman adding his own creative flair to everything and Patton just being the most amazing being in the universe.
He still can't breathe, but it doesn't seem like such a big deal now that his body's stopped fighting, having finally accepted it's fate and given in.
He idly wonders if Janus knew this would happen. Does he know that his little spell had kept Virgil from breathing at all, or does he even care? Is he sitting downstairs, watching Disney and eating popcorn and laughing, all the while knowing Virgil is slowly choking to death, or does he simply not know?
Virgil would never know the answer to that.
Time was seeming to stretch out forever, each second taking an eternity. Was time really moving that slowly? It seems like he should have been dead long ago, but instead he's still here. He hadn't even known a body could just give up like this. He'd never heard of it happening, at least.
Virgil can't breathe. He can't breathe and his vision is almost gone and he can barely hear anything. He can't feel the floor under him and the stars have disappeared from the ceiling.
He's dying. He's dying and no one knows and he isn't sure if they'd care if they did. His body has all but given our and he's only going to be alive for the next few seconds.
Virgil is dying, and for once in his life, he isn't afraid.
The last thing he knows is hearing laughter from downstairs, and his last thought is about how much he loves them and how he hopes they're happy.
