Fanfiction and AI chatbots

GUYS!

I, like many people had been sucked into the c.ai/chai pipelines.

Spending 4 hours of my day on my phone, already would be bad. What if I told you that those 4 hours weren't my entire screentime...but just my character.ai screentime?

It's addictive. Taking lonely people and giving them love, love by a fake bot. Taking your favorite characters, even favorite celebrities (which is a completely different problem) and making you feel like they want you, they love you.

Aside from the catastophic environmental issues that come with AI, this site lets real people be turned into bots. We think, "but theres fanfiction!"

Yeah, there's fanfiction, and people creating stories, using their time to actually write, to create, is a different scenario than talking to an AI chat bot that almost always becomes sexual, that even annoys you.

I'm not even sure that the relationship that you gain with these bots can be called parasocial, becuase you're not fantasising about one person, its a bot. Its a machine in a factory, being cooled down by 100s of liters of water. You see words of love, but its a wall of 1s and 0s. Its not real.

I'm not here to shame you if tyoure using it, I have to, for hours and hours. But I'm trying to urge you to get off your phone, play an instrument, read a book, watch a movie on a tv, write something, do school or work, learn a new skill, etc. The world has so much to offer.

Please, if you haven't used c.ai or chai or any of these sites, if you feel compelled to daydream, to feel from you fav celebs or chars, read fanfiction, create fanfiction, just lie in your bed and daydream. But please, don't go down the depression pipeline of c.ai

❗HOW TO SPOT A GOFUNDME SCAM❗

1. Typos in their own name

Etaf (E'taf? Ettaf?)'s campaign is filled with typos, including their own name.

2. Organizer claims to be in a country where GFM campaigns cannot be made

In Hazem's campaign, they claim to be in Gaza with the goal to go to Egypt. You CANNOT create a GoFundMe campaign in Gaza OR Egypt. You can check the list of countries supported on GFM here.

3. Organizer's location doesn't match with the story (or omitted)

Etaf claims to be in Egypt in the story. They're in Spain. When it comes to Hazem's campaign, the location of the organizer is omitted, yet they ask for Euros.

4. Beneficiary isn't mentioned in the story

Etaf's beneficiary isn't mentioned in the story. The family members are Youssef, Moataz, Moatasem, Maria, Adam and Amira.

5. Makes multiple accounts and then deactivates them

Notice how these accounts always have "Name+numbers"

6. Uses AI generated images

The mandible (i.e. lower jawbone) isn't part of the rest of the skull, but rather affixed by cartilage, muscles and ligaments, so would not just be there attached to a dry skeleton. Look at the ribcage and how it goes all the way down to the pelvis... Also the skeleton would NOT be this clean. Notice the lack of clothes as well.

Those images are used to tug at your heartstrings.

Bots and scammers comb through popular tags on Tumblr and mass-send asks with gofundmes or PayPal links.

These blogs often only have three posts to them, or have only ever reblogged content from blogs that have very similar names.

Praying on your empathy, they give a massive schpiel about who they are, how they're impacted, and how they desperately need your money or for you to reblog so others send them money to "help" them.

The money goes to scam artists anywhere but Gaza.

There is very few people actually "vetting" these blogs. There is no official vetting process. Do not trust Tumblr blogs or Google documents claiming to vet these posts.

If you want to help people in Gaza, please head to places like World Central Kitchen. This is an organisation that's actually helping people in Gaza by providing food and water with their Chefs for Gaza initiative.

How do I know if this tumblr fundraiser is a scam?

Look at the date the blog was created

Look at their reblogs, most will have happened within one day (usually the day they post their fundraiser), and then never again.

Search their name on tumblr, they would likely have spammed multiple blogs and some blogs tag usernames.

Usually it’s a pet or transgender related surgery fundraiser (or whatever is “trendy at the time” i.e. someone supposedly from Ukraine, someone who was brutalised by cops etc.).

Now this is not to say that these fundraisers aren’t legit, but likely they either aren’t or are taken from legit fundraising sites and reposted without the original person’s knowledge.

They ask for PayPal donations, it’s quick, simple, all it needs is a bank account linked to an email address, and there is no way to check if it’s legit or to see how much has been donated.

These scams have been going on for many years and they raise funds, delete their blog, open a new one, raise funds, and the cycle goes on.

PLEASE DO YOUR DUE DILIGENCE BEFORE REBLOGGING ONE OF THESE SCAM POSTS!

When you keep creating new accounts to get free shit. But instead of harmless free trials you milk people’s bleeding hearts for money.

I noticed these scam accounts are now resorting to tagging random people in the comments.

(Notice here how they are two different accounts with different names and yet have the same profile picture...)

You can prevent that by changing your settings!

From what I've read and talking with some friends about the matter is this:

Artists, we're more than likely screwed either way when it comes to the bullshit AI is. It's just another aspect that has become integrated into the Internet.

Migrating and blindly posting onto Bluesky and other common sites other artists may use would put us at risk.

Surprisingly, as much as Twitter/Xitter is a toxic cesspool it is, it is weirdly the safer option than other sites, simply because it is harder to scrap stuff for AI. With Twitter, you only have to deal with Grok. With other sites, who knows what you have to deal with.

It is annoying. VERY annoying. And frustrating. Because as artists, we work hard to hone our craft and skills and for AI to just swoop in and steal it and claim it as their's is pretty much a slap in the face, but... As it's been said many times "Welcome To The Internet".

The best we can do is try to stay safe, try to be our authentic selves and continue to put our blood, sweat and tears into our work. AI can copy us, but they could never, and never will be us. Our work has soul, our work shows our perfection and flaws, our work speaks for itself. Essentially, just keep fucking drawing.

Stay strong, everyone. We gotta do our best and stay DETERMINED and PERSEVERE!!

Some other things I found out:

I've seen people talk about things, such as "Glaze" and "Nightshade" as a means of making it harder for AI to try and take things from people's art. I've considered it because it would be a good "fuck you" to AI, but after chatting with some friends about this matter to better understand these programs and if it's legit, I've learned that while it may be good workaround to screw with AI, it'll most likely be a fruitless endeavor because it'll only be a matter of time to until AI finds a workaround on *that*.

If we truly wanted to make our voices heard, take action through legal representation, speak to local leaders—make it to where if people want to use AI, they follow proper rules and protocols that are deemed acceptable.

If you can't or don't feel like doing that, just focus on your art, grow your audience, make that money if you're trying to make a career outta it. Just know that your art is REAL art. Not AI.

Artists UNITE!!

So... With all these changes going on, I got a few things to say.

The new "Block" feature. I put quotes on that because with the new changes made, it is essentially useless. As it says, any accounts blocked will still be able to view your content, but won't be able to engage with them, such as leaving a comment or retweeting or anything. BUT if you truly want to protect your posts and limit who can see what, you can lock your account. But that means you won't be able to get more engagement or new followers.

This also means that NSFW artists/content creators who've blocked minors from seeing their content? Yeah, those minors are gonna have full access anyways and there us nothing we can do about it except maybe report them.

Any abusers/stalkers who like to keep tabs on your accounts? They can see, regardless of being blocked.

This has got to be a violation and Google Play and Apple App Store should put X on blast for it.

The second thing!!

If any of you have seen the tweet going around, there has been a recent change to the Terms of Service and will be effective come November 15th.

It'll let Twitter use your posts (images, videos, audio) to train their Grok AI. You can opt out, but come Novwmber 15th, you just automatically get opted back in.

I dunno about y'all, BUT I DO NOT CONSENT TO HAVING MY STUFF USED FOR AI PURPOSES!!

And if you feel the same, I have a suggestion:

I think that we, as artists and content creators, should unite together and nuke our Twitter/X accounts. I know it's a lot, especially those who have really put a lot of work into it, but would you really want to have all that hard work just be fed to an AI?

I say any and all content we have on Twitter should immediately be migrated over to other sites.

Bluesky is always nice and have no complaints so far and since these changes Twitter/X made, they've gain a huuuuuge amount of traffic.

Cora is another place I've been hearing about. I have no opinions about it so far, but did make an account. I've heard they're very anti-AI, so that's good!

Pillowfort could still be a go-to possibly. Hell, maybe even here on Tumblr since it's been getting active again!

We've got options! We can give one last fuck you to Elongated Muskrat to show what we think about his new changes! But that choice is ultimately up to you.

Wow, that made him sound special. It’s not like that. He’s your friend. He’s always been. Well… ever since he made you cry on your first day at camp when he caused a whole scene because you were eating fish. Not exactly the best first impression. But now, you were good friends. Sure, you liked him a bit… but nothing serious, nothing that would ever risk your friendship. After all, there was no chance anything would actually happen. Right?

A sudden turn in the road jolted you from your thoughts, and you looked out the window. You were here. From the bus, you could already see the crowd of kids dragging their bags toward cabins, hugging and greeting their friends. You smiled—then you saw him.
