In a few months, I’m going on a cruise to Mexico. I was wondering what kind of spells I could do while on the ship, and ported in Mexico. What are some rituals that y’all do around water, especially if you worship a deity which has control or is related to the water?
I really do love the older parts of my town, especially when those older things are soft sweaters, even if I don't live my cabin dream I can dress like it
hi!
i found your blog and i was wondering if you could help me. i'm a baby witch and i'm having a hard time trying to find books to read about fae. i do not want to begin fairy work right now, i believe i'm not ready, but i'm obsessed with them since my childhood and i want to learn more. do you have any books recomendations? or even other sources of fae and fae work. if you don't, that's fine.
even if you just read this, thank you very much! i hope you have a nice day.
Hey there! I will tell you, my journey into fae work started like yours, and at some point, the fae will make themselves known, wether you’re ready or not, so knowledge is important. I have always liked faeries too, and I ended up researching the fae in various folklore- brothers Grimm, traditional Scottish and Celtic folklore, whatever I could get my hands on.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of my collection of folklore is inherited from various grandparents and great grandparents, so a lot of them are incredibly old or out of print.
HOWEVER! There IS the Spiderwick Chronicles! Before you laugh at me, hear me out: one of the authors is Holly Black, and that lady does her research!
This is a companion to the series- and a lot of the lore in here checks out; if not the types of fae specifically. Turn your clothes inside out if the fae confuse you? In there- and that’s pretty obscure. Start here, is my recommendation, or the folklore section of your library!
I am always open to asks and doing free readings! Do not hesitate to ask!
The Theban Alphabet
It will be used in my next post! Think of it as a secret alphabet for all you in the broom closet!
Fabulous idea, especially for those in the broom closet! It can be edited to be purely intentional magic, I think (op lemme know if I’m wrong) so it’s just “pretty colors you like collecting!”
Witchcraft challenge: Design a spell using the paint chip samples from the hardware store.
Hi guys, it’s Mai, and I happen to have a special post today!
Today we will be learning why deck interviews are important- for tarot and oracle cards. You see, every deck is different. Even tarot decks. Even mass produced decks! Each deck has its own individual personality, and I don’t think a lot of people realize this.
Each time I get a new deck of any divination card, I conduct a simple deck interview:
(Thank you @dailygrimoire for your wonderful spread; they also have a great post on bonding with your decks!)
As you interpret the cards, write it down, like you’re writing a paper for work or school. You’ll find it’s easier to understand when it’s not “reversed magician, upright 3 of swords?? What????”
Remember, each deck is different. My Silmarilion Oracle deck is a very pessimistic deck, but it gives you straight facts. My demonic arcana deck (by @crimson-chains and @kaizuart ) is very eager to please, but might try too hard sometimes.
(But seriously go look at the art for the demonic arcana deck it’s gorgeous)
I learned these things about my decks by asking them. You won’t get anywhere with them without making an effort!
I noticed you guys were kinda fascinated with my Silmarilion deck. Maybe some pictures are in order……
Hello hello! Today we’re going to talk about the preferred method of sigil making for my dear friend. They have severe ADHD and autism, and struggle with focus- either hyper focused or unable to focus.
They prefer this method for its ease and organic feeling. The method I speak of is:
The Abstract Method is a very artsy way to make a sigil. It’s incredibly easy.
First, you’re going to pick the thing you want your sigil to represent. I’m going with “protection” again.
Next, look at the word. What does it mean to you? FEEL where the lines go, how straight they are or how they curve. Everyone’s will look different, since words mean different things to different people.
Example:
Feel free to use mine (with proper credit of course), but don’t be afraid to make yours look completely different from mine! Feel your way through this method.
Sigils are little symbols that can channel intent to do spells or help in rituals. I find sigils are very low energy, and good for witches in the broom closet- or however you categorize being a secret witch. Stick these bad boys on the bottom of your shoe, as a doodle in a notebook, on a random sheet of paper, and no one will ever know!
There are several methods for making sigils. I’ll make a post covering each. Today, we’re covering the 1-9 Method! (If there’s an actual name for that pls tell me)
The 1-9 Method is a method where you assign each letter of the alphabet a number between 1 and 9 to make a sigil.
The first step is to take the alphabet and put it into a chart, with 9 columns, each labeled 1-9, so it’s organized something like this:
Once you get that all finished, pick a word or a phrase; I’m going to use “protection”.
This is where things get a little dicey. Some people say you have to drop all repeat letters. Some say repeats and vowels. I personally view that as garbage; doesn’t mean it isn’t a valid way to make a sigil. I just think that we organized the whole damn alphabet into 9 columns, so we should use the whole damn alphabet! I drop my repeats, so “protection” looks a like this:
Protection = Protecin
After that, we match every letter with its number on the table.
Protecin = 79625395
Now draw a circle. Divide it into 9 pieces, and start with your first number; in my case 7. Find point 7, and move to point 9, then 6, so on and so forth. Here’s how my circle started out versus how it ended:
I tried to include arrows, but it looks a bit confusing……. *sigh*
Why are my Silmarilion oracle cards such pessimists? Are they okay? Did the Feanorians find you?
I’m back, friends!
This time, we’re going to explore the wonderful world of
Crystals and Minerals!
Since everyone likes shiny rocks, and since crystals and minerals are found literally everywhere, I figured this was the next logical step in this undertaking.
When you go out looking for crystals at a specialty store, make sure you get ethically sourced, wholesale rocks, or rocks grown in a lab. I know witches on both sides, and I get where each are coming from.
If you get rocks you know are ethically sourced (i.e not through unpaid labor like *blood diamonds*), then good for you. Sometimes, witches are broke, and can’t drop a crap ton of money on rocks. That’s where lab grown rocks come in. 1000% cheaper, same rocks (arguably). Regardless, know where your rocks are coming from.
It might be helpful to have a little guidebook on rocks to help you identify what you have, especially if you’re going for cheap tumbled rocks like what you find in a gift store. Then you know what you have!
I hope this was helpful, and not some incoherent rambling. If you have any requests for the next installment of the Eco-Friendly Ingredients, please let me know!
Hi, and welcome back to a new witchcraft post! I saw you guys really liked my post on spell disposal, and I wanted to make a post on some fabulous ingredients that are
Eco friendly ~
So here is part 1! The obvious one, herbs!
I think we are all in agreement that herbs are literally the most common of all spell ingredients, but you’d be shocked at how much people pay for a jar of dried herbs (or at least how much my mum pays at the grocery store)!
My family actually decided to start growing our own herbs, like thyme, lavender, sage, basil, oregano, rosemary, etc. Of course, my family being Christian, they used them for cooking.
But no matter what you do, cook or spell, an herb’s at its most potent when dried!
So how do you get from fresh herbs to dried?
Cut your herbs! Cut with plenty of stem, and don’t take too much, only what you will need for now. Make sure you thank that plant for its help, and give it a drink!
Take a bit of string and wrap one end around the base of your stems, so the herbs hang upside down.
Tie the other end to a hanger or a window hook, or a curtain rod. I hang mine in mostly darkness, my mum does it in mostly light. I recommend the mostly darkness method; my mum’s always turn out funky. I tie my bundles to a hanger in my closet and let them do their thing.
Wait 1-2 weeks, or until mostly crunchy to the touch. Not crispy, but crunchy.
Now you’re done! ✨✨
Have a magical day!✨✨
I see a lot of people who wonder what they do with their spell jars or the remains of a spell when it’s run its course. The answer is.. not simple, but not complicated.
There are three methods of spell disposal that I think work the best:
Reuse: if you have any things like stones or beads, I recommend cleansing them, and then using them elsewhere. But you have to cleanse them!! Their energies will get muddled, and the poor things will get confused.
Throwing them away or recycling: things like plants and herbs can be thrown away- biodegradable and all that. But things like glass jars?? Recycle that bitch! Thank each component for it’s service, and then throw it away.
Burning: IF SAFE TO DO SO burn your spell. Throw the ashes away.
Anything really that isn’t putting it down the drain or burying it! That’s not safe for the environment, don’t do that.
Oracle Cards!
Who doesn’t love a good Oracle Card reading? Everyone loves tarot, but there’s a lot of stuff to remember! With Oracle Cards.... well there’s still stuff to remember, but it’s much easier if you......
Make them! ✨✨
You will need:
Thick paper or cardstock
Paint (optional: glitter paint!!)
Drawing tools
Scissors
Your fucking imagination!
Cut your cards out of the cardstock in any size you want- they just gotta be uniform- and in any number you like.
Now for the fun part: Draw the image, write a message, a bit of both! Use that big, beautiful imagination! Use it!! They can be part of a theme, random, whatever you want.
Paint it, color it, etc. I used glitter paint because why the fuck not? Once you’re happy, turn the card over, and paint the back. They can be uniform or unique (Unique ones you can have people draw blindly or choose one they’re drawn to).
Let the back dry, and bam! Oracle Cards! That you chose the meanings for!
Here’s a few of mine; they’re based on Tolkien’s Valar:
Create some beautiful cards and do some readings!
I am an experienced faerie witch. I do not recommend faerie work for the beginners. It’s just not something you can dive headfirst into!
Faerie witchcraft is the path where you work with the fae to accomplish spells, divination, and other spirit work. However, unlike spirit work, the fae are extremely temperamental and should not be called upon for trivial matters.
When working with the fae, it’s important to keep manners in mind. Sometimes it’s unavoidable (glares at my dumbass parents who thought I was joking about the faeries in the yard), but unless you’re like me, and thought faeries were the coolest and learned literally everything about them even before starting witchcraft, then you probably have no clue of faerie etiquette.
Here’s a handy-dandy list of the basics!
Do not leave offerings only during spell work! This tells them this is payment and that you only want to use them. It irritates them, just like when someone goes up to you and goes “Here’s this thing, now do xyz for me!” No one likes that.
No thank yous or you’re welcomes. Also reads as part of a bargain. If you say thanks for doing something, then they will assume you are bringing them a thing in return and hassle you until you do so. Saying you’re welcome is like you’re graciously accepting this gift they’ve given you... when you haven’t given them anything...
If you bake something, try to leave them some. They like the tasty sweets.
All faeries are different. Some like red, some like blue. Some get incredibly offended if you give them lemon loaf cake and will kill your sage. Some do not have genders or pronouns, and will inflict bodily harm if you don’t call them by their names (In case you can’t tell, this is stuff that’s happened to me..). In any case, keep their preferences in mind.
No iron offerings.
No chocolate (generally; if they express interest in chocolate, make sure they can have it and then give it to them. One of the garden faerie is allergic to chocolate but eats it like a lactose intolerant person eats ice cream.)
When in doubt, ask! But be aware, faeries do lie. Like rugs, in fact. They lie by omission usually, but they do it often- the pixie called out the garden faerie about the chocolate allergy. *rage intensifies*
Anyways, that’s all I can think of for now! I’m always open to questions, so drop me an ask!
Altars are the space where a witch practices their craft. It can hold a good deal of things, divided in any way that a witch sees fit. Some divide by directions, some by deities. Some divide by a way known only to them it’s up to you!
Let’s take my altar for instance:
All my witchy ingredients tucked safely underneath
My cauldron; a square clay pot I made in junior year
Lots of offerings on the right side of my altar
Things to represent the faeries I work with on the right
My wand
Decorations for Beltane
A couple specialty items
My altar will look completely different from yours, or even someone who works different from you!
Set your altar up in a way that makes you feel the most comfortable!
I’m restarting my blog from scratch, after a too-long hiatus, and I figured an introduction was in order.
I go by Mai on this blog, and I recently came out of the broom closet in a family of (very accepting) Christians. I’m a faerie witch, and I love plants and excel at divination. This blog will focus on those and basics, and the grimoire. That being said, this is a safe place, so no terfs, no racists, etc. Fight me.
My hobbies are drawing, writing, and making jewelry. I live in that one awkward part of the US where we aren’t really the South, but aren’t really Midwest either. I’m currently trying to balance 97 different things during this pandemic (including the pandemic 🥲).
I am here for any witches who need me, or are in a situation similar to mine- broom closeted, or trying to transition out of it. Feel free to drop an ask!
Edit: I have created a Silmarilion sideblog, so if you enjoy my Silmarilion content, go there. @mai-youdumbass
So the weatherman kept telling my area to expect 1-3 inches of snow, and that we probably wouldn’t have school tomorrow. Well, the day comes.. and no snow. The next week, he says to expect MORE snow. The day comes.. powder. Like, powdered sugar. A light dusting. So, I decided, if the weatherman is going to tell me it’s gonna snow, I’ll have a little magic on my side to encourage it to snow! So I made a spell. It brings about FAVORABLE CONDITIONS for a snow day or two.
It’s good for us closet witches, because a it’s a subtle spell, and no one will know, unless people are routinely riffling through your pillows.
You need:
a sigil for snow day,
your bed,
and that’s it.
First, write down your sigil. Charge it with your hopes and prayers for a snow day and all the rest and relaxation that comes with it. The stronger your intent, the more snow days you are likely to have (I ended up with two).
Second, put it under your pillow when you’re getting ready for bed.
Thirdly, go to sleep. We all know snow doesn’t fall in generous amounts when we’re awake. Sleep on it for one week, and you will end up with a lovely snow day! Or two!
Don’t recast this spell after casting initially for a few weeks. Mother Nature may saddle you with a blizzard, and us folks here in the Midwest region don’t need any more blizzards, thank you.
So I’m making a tarot deck, right? And I set it on my nightstand at night when I’m done working on it. Each morning for the past few days, the Moon card is on my bed. Like, I put it on the bottom of my deck in progress and it still ends up on my bed?? Is my baby tarot deck trying to tell me??
I am a baby witch, who specializes in sigilcraft and herbs. I would be happy to make sigils for anyone who needs one! This is to help me explore my craft, and if you would help me, I would greatly appreciate it! I ask for no money, unless you want to give me knowledge. Which is also greatly appreciated, by the way.
