Here is a commission that I did for @/tonymythos (on Instagram)! Lyric (the rabbit) and Quill (the dove) are his characters! I really enjoyed drawing these two, they have very fun designs. Day 18/19: Escape/Flight 🕊

Happy holidays, everyone!

This is probably going to be my last piece of the year as I'll be on vacation in a few days ✌️

Four walls blocking the light. A door which speaks to the visitors. Walkways leading your eyes to the darkness and the latent smell of incense mixing with the warm air. The intimidating house of worship calls, no, beseeches, "Enter and be among friends and companions" and yet one soft piece of beauty shines without favor. Beautiful sunlight streaming onto the old pine floor. Blue sunlight softened by the glass art of a craftsman. Soft blue light making this gathering spot like a welcoming friend. These days have been hectic, stressful for me and the people around me. In which, one of them had to leave this earth. It will be in our memories like the sun remembers the moon after the stars rise.

As much as your eyes are covered with dried tears, you looked at the star you chose and thought; I enjoyed it when I was there. I will miss it, but soon I will feel the sunlight on my skin, as well as the brightness of every night and day to come.

So I literally lost all control of myself and had the URGE to do an edit of my beloved little star, my character in @confettipetti roleplay “The Wish Granters”: Dove.

As soon as I created her, I had a very precise image of her in my head and couldn’t resist to do an edit. I-i just had to! 

So may I present you Dove, a small and quiet star whose light is faint yet as soft and gentle as she is, with a heart of gold and the galaxy in her eyes. She may be small, she may look fragile, but she will always try to do her best.

Despite a hard life as a mortal, she kept a rather innocent faith in people’s hearts and always tries to help as much as she can.

A woodcut style dove wearing a keffiyeh over a poppy. The official national flower of Palestine as of 2016 actually seems to be the Faqqu’a iris, but many people will tell you that it's the poppy. Regardless of how official it is (often a vague thing when it comes to national symbols anyway) the poppy is an important national emblem for Palestine. It features the four colors of the flag (black, white, red and green) and is also said to represent blood shed on the land. Honestly I see it used a lot more than the iris (though both are lovely plants).

New Dove Design

I am absolutely in love with the Reem Kufi font (on the left), it's a beautiful blend of historical and modern design (though a little hard to read if you're still new to Arabic, haha). The Arabic characters were designed by Khaled Hosny if you want to check out the artist. I've used it for a bunch of simpler designs as well on my Redbubble recently.

Keffiyeh Doves - New Versions

I wanted to post these little guys again since it turned out my account was not working/not showing in any tags when I made the previous post.

These are the new variants:

My best friend (the best person I have EVER known) is Palestinian, and a lot of his friends and family in Palestine and around the rest of the Levant are being hurt directly and/or financially by the attacks on Gaza, the increasing Israeli raids in the West Bank and the collateral damage in surrounding countries. ALL PROCEEDS from these designs will go to helping his girlfriend afford to join him in America safely and helping his other loved ones weather this war.

We're slightly hopeful that the ceasefire will mitigate the harm being done to my friend's family going forward. He's already had some loved ones hurt that this money can help so for now I will continue the fundraising (plus we are not optimistic about the ceasefire continuing to be extended, unfortunately). For now his girlfriend has remained safe and financial planning for her trip here is going okay. Most of his immediate family is okay (extended family and friends not entirely so unfortunately). I will keep these updates somewhat vague to protect their privacy. We greatly appreciate all your help!

ALL PROCEEDS from these designs will go to helping his girlfriend afford to join him in America safely and helping his other loved ones weather the violence and financial hardship.

Palestine Designs

My Palestinian best friend is an absolutely brilliant scientist and all around amazing person. He genuinely tries to help everyone he meets. It is heartbreaking seeing my dearest friend in so much pain. I wish there was more I could do to help.

A lot of his friends and family all around the Levant are being hurt directly and/or financially by the war. ALL PROCEEDS from the Palestine designs I have been selling will go first and foremost to helping his girlfriend afford to join him in America safely, and after that helping his other loved ones weather this war.

I know it's not much but my hope is to at least ease the financial toll this will take on him, grad students don't have much to begin with and having to stretch what he does have to protect those he loves is going to be really tough as this conflict drags on. I don't want him to have to leave his research, I can't tell you much for his privacy but I assure you it is brilliant work and he loves it so much. No scientist should have to choose between their passion and the safety of their family.

Thank you so much to the anonymous customer from Dublin who bought this keffiyeh-wearing dove on a shirt yesterday!

ALL PROCEEDS from Palestine related sales through my Redbubble shop will go to my Palestinian best friend (the most amazing person I've ever known) to help him bring his girlfriend over to America. Any left over will be used to help his family/other loved ones affected by the war.

Palestine Designs

My best friend is an absolutely brilliant scientist and all around amazing person. He genuinely tries to help everyone he meets. He'll interrupt a lunch to go buy lunch for the homeless people too. He's been involved in activism for more causes than I can count, often for things (like LGBTQ+ issues) that don't affect him personally, just because it's the right thing to do. He takes care of everyone else even when he doesn't have much for himself.

He is Palestinian, and a lot of his friends and family all around the Levant are being hurt either directly or financially by the war. Those of you who have been following this account know that for a little over a week now I have been adding Palestine related designs to my Redbubble shop.
