My fabric stash just outgrew my storage cabinet…. Ah well, I guess that it’s a sewist life to have bags of unhoused fabric sitting around their room/sewing space.
The fabric will soon(ish) be used tho.; this is all old shirts from my grandpa that my gran forced him to get rid of bc they were too worn out, and I’ll make a patchwork quilt out of them.

Notions:
Wawak.com - start here, mostly stay here. Wawak is a supplier for professional sewing businesses and have the prices that show it. I will not pay for gutermann Mara 100 anywhere else. I buy buttons, tools, thread, and most elastic here.

Fabric Mart - this is one where you want to sign up for emails and never buy unless its on sale. They run different sales every day and they rotate. Mostly deadstock fabrics but I buy more from here than anywhere else. Fabrics-Store - again, buy the sales not the full price. Sign up for the emails but redirect them to a folder because it is TOO MANY. They stock linen or good but not amazing quality. https://www.fabrics-store.com/

Califabrics - mix of deadstock and big brands, easy to navigate and always seem to have good denim in stock. https://califabrics.com/

Itokri - This is something a little different. Itokri is an Indian business with incredible traditional fabrics. Shipping to the US is expensive, but the fabric is so inexpensive it evens out. I generally end up paying like $30 for shipping. Beautiful ikat and block prints. https://itokri.com/

This is not an exhaustive list of everywhere you can buy fabric, or even a full list of where I shop. There are SO many options out there in the world. You also need to think outside the fabric store box. I thrift men's shirt fabrics for quilts and sheets for backing fabric. I don't do a ton of in person thrifting and my local stores don't get a lot of craft materials but every thrift store is its own universe and reflects the community it is in. Go out and find something cool.
Oh and final note: Don't shop at Hobby Lobby.

I wanted to enter an embroidery competition that was run by Domestika. And this is what I ended up coming up with. It is a lichen themed French barrett hair clip.
Prior to planning and making my embroidery I went on some walks and took some photos for inspiration.
I really love lichen it's such a strange thing. The physical structure of lichen is a fungi that clings to tree branches, rocks, and other solid surfaces. The fungi provides a home for a colony of tiny algae or cyanobacteria. The algae or cyanobacteria photosynthesize producing sugars and other molecules that they share with the fungi. These are what give the lichen its colours. So lichen isn't really one thing. It is a living collaboration of two completely unrelated organisms. It can survive desiccation and bounces right back with a little rain.
It looks a bit like coral and can be used to indicate air quality. Overall a fascinating and splendid amalgam.

When I get the little ones to bed I’m gonna try streaming some Minecraft. I have a paid survival server setup w/ Fabric and some mods.
The other night I ran through the nether and portaled into an arctic biome. I made a house, died, and corpse walked back to the arctic house. It wasn’t as far as I expected so I kept pushing north then got lost and found a broken portal that I rebuilt.
If anyone knows how to make a map of the server any help would be appreciated.
In 2011, I made a glorious queen-size quilt for my first apartment with my then-fiance. It was a big project for a first-time quilter, but it worked out and has made me very happy. And I made a small #lapquilt for my grandmother for Christmas two years ago. I have been promising my mum a handmade quilt for YEARS now, but life kept interrupting, so I put this big project on the back-burner five years ago. I had bought most the fabric I thought I would need to make a simple block quilt with red, white, and blue square repeating pattern, but it ended up in boxes as I moved. Flash forward to two weeks ago. I was rifling through my craft hoard *ahem* stash and found the bag that contained all the fabric!😄 I realized that just simple squares wasn't going to do my work justice or her justice, so I made a plan and decided to sew my first #piecedquilt for her. She served in the Army and was a Field Artillery Officer, back when very few women had any major roles in combat positions. I am proud of her service and wanted to make a "patriotic" quilt for her. So, using the red, white, and blue fabric, I've come up with this! The quilt will initially be sewn on my sewing machine, then #handquilted by me. It'll be perfect as a throw blanket and fits a twin-size bed. I have the first row finished for the #quiltblocks and have 5 more rows to sew. Option 1 is my favorite one, BUT It has less fabric. So that means the hat will be smaller.
Option 2 is very flexible and bigger in size. So we can have a bigger hat and fancier hat

No but legit I asked what the fiber content of something was and the guy didn’t know so he cut a chunk off and lit it on fire and felt the ashes and was like. Yeah this is mostly cotton with a lil bit of silk. And that was the moment I knew. This is it. This is the fabric store for me. Also that guy is marriage material. Not for me but damn some person is gonna be so happy with him.
